Quieter than the competition: The Mercury 115 FourStroke is quieter than a competing 115 hp 4-stroke at all speeds.
At idle, Mercury is four decibels quieter than the competition — the competing outboard is 25% louder.
At cruising speed, where conversations usually take place, the competing outboard generates nearly 15% more noise.
At full throttle, Mercury is more than eight decibels quieter — the competing outboard is 50% louder.
Tests conducted by Mercury PDE NVH staff in a Mercury Marine semi-anechoic chamber (Sound lab).
Counter-rotation: Do you enjoy offshore cruising even if you don’t plan to buy a large boat? Mercury offers, for the first time, a left-rotation FourStroke 115 hp engine. Two of these mid-range monsters on your transom provide the handling and docking security of more powerful twin-engine hulls, but at a much more wallet-friendly price. Unlike competing twin 115 hp engines, Mercury twin FourStroke 115s are Command Thrust models driving V6 category propellers like the Enertia series, for better acceleration and improved boat control in rough waters.
*Available only on 115 hp
Powerful and efficient: Thanks to their reduced weight and large displacement, Mercury’s new FourStroke 80 - 115 engines develop generous torque and instant power. Because they don’t have to work as hard as heavier engines or smaller displacement motors, these engines allow boats to plane more quickly, accelerate better, and deliver improved fuel efficiency at cruising speeds.
Lightweight and energy-efficient: Mercury’s world-renowned engineering team has packed incredible power into these light and compact four-cylinder, single overhead cam engines. The 115 hp weighs 9 kilos less than its nearest competing 4-stroke, making it the lightest low-emissions outboard in the world in its power class.
Dry weight is for the lightest model. Comparative weights refer to base engines without oil, propeller, or integrated steering cylinder. Weights are based on owner’s manual specifications.
Larger footprint: The larger Command Thrust gearcase creates a bigger footprint in the water, improving boat control. The larger hydrodynamic gearcase combined with a bigger diameter propeller allows heavier boats to plane more easily and maintain planing at lower speeds, with no effect on top speed.
Peace of mind: Equipped with the same lifetime maintenance-free valve train as our FourStroke 150 engines, the FourStroke 80-115 hp outboards are incredibly durable.
Smoother than the competition: The Mercury 115 FourStroke produces less vibration and offers a smoother ride than a competing 115 hp 4-stroke.
At forward idle, vibration levels on the Mercury at the driver’s seat are up to 50% lower than the competing outboard.
On the transom, the competing outboard vibrates nearly five times more than the Mercury, both at cruising speed and full throttle.
Tests conducted by Mercury PDE NVH staff at a Mercury Marine test location on a 2013 Bayliner 170.
