The large displacement, long stroke, four cylinders, and single overhead camshaft ensure optimal power and smooth operation with Command Thrust models.
Butterfly screw clamp: The 40 hp manual start, long shaft (20 in / 508 mm), and tiller steering model is also available with a butterfly screw clamp. This clamp reduces the time and effort needed to install and remove the outboard on/from the boat’s transom.
The Big Tiller: The optional centrally mounted Big Tiller offers optimal control. A longer tiller handle incorporates a convenient trim button, the shift lever is within easy reach, and an optional digital trolling control allows lowering the engine speed down to 700 rpm in 10 rpm increments.
Instant starts / energy efficiency: Mercury’s Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) ensures reliable instant starting, greater fuel efficiency, immediate throttle response, and protection against fuel quality issues.
