Quieter than the competition: The Mercury 115 FourStroke is quieter than a competing 115 hp 4-stroke at all rpm.
At idle, the Mercury is four decibels quieter than the competition—the competing outboard is 25% louder.
At cruising speed, where conversations usually take place, the competing outboard generates nearly 15% more noise.
At full throttle, the Mercury is more than eight decibels quieter—the competing outboard is 50% louder.

Counter rotation: Do you enjoy offshore boating, even if you don’t plan to buy a large boat? Mercury offers, for the first time, a 115 hp FourStroke engine with left rotation. Two of these midsize beasts on your transom provide the maneuverability and docking safety of more powerful twin-engine hulls but at a much more affordable price for your wallet. Unlike twin 115 hp competing engines, Mercury FourStroke twin 115 models are Command Thrust types that drive V6-category propellers, like those of the Enertia series, to provide better acceleration and boat control in rough waters.
*Available only on 115 hp
Powerful and efficient: Thanks to their reduced weight and large displacement, the new Mercury FourStroke 80 - 115 engines deliver generous torque and instant power. Because they don’t have to work as hard as heavier motors or smaller displacement engines, these engines allow boats to plane faster, accelerate better, and show improved fuel efficiency at cruising speed.
Lightweight and fuel efficient: Mercury’s world-renowned engineering team has focused incredible power into these light and compact four-cylinder single overhead camshaft engines. The 115 hp weighs 9 kilograms less than its closest 4-stroke competitor, making it the lightest low-emission outboard in its power category worldwide.
Dry weight corresponds to the lightest model. Comparative weights refer to base engines without oil, propeller, or integrated steering cylinder. Weights are based on owner’s manual specifications.
Larger footprint: The larger Command Thrust lower unit creates a greater footprint in the water, improving boat control. The larger streamlined gearcase, combined with a larger diameter propeller, can get a heavy boat planing more easily and keep it there at lower speeds without affecting top speed.
Peace of mind assured: Equipped with the same lifetime maintenance-free valve train as our FourStroke 150 engines, the FourStroke 80-115 hp outboards are incredibly durable.
Smoother than the competition: The Mercury 115 FourStroke produces less vibration and delivers a smoother ride than a competing 115 hp 4-stroke.
At forward idle, Mercurys’ vibration level at the driver’s seat is up to 50% lower than the competing outboard engine.
At the transom, the competing outboard engine vibrates nearly five times more than the Mercury at both cruising speed and full throttle.
